Well actually it's for my studies (architecture) I'm working with 3d studio max, I've just learned by reading some tutorials and clicking everywhere ^^ (which was quite tough because it's a very complex program).
For photomanipulation you need photoshop, you know that I guess. And just by testing things and nibbling you start to understand the program and enjoying manipulation ^^ Many tutorials are online, they may help you also
